The event
European Masters Throwdown (EMT) is a European-level Masters CrossFit championship, founded in 2014. Masters-category athletes compete from across Europe, and the final is held annually in Budapest.
Pantheon Sound has been the recurring audio production partner since 2022 — we have delivered every final's audio production to date. The venue has scaled with the production's growing demands: the 2022 final took place in the lower hall of the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena, 2023 was at Soroksár Sports Hall, and 2024 and 2025 both at the Gyál Sports Hall.

Pantheon Sound's role
Our engagement covers the full audio side — the event runs without a separate lighting service provider, so the audio system alone has to carry the competition's atmosphere and professional clarity.
The dual challenge: intelligible announcements together with music that specifically supports the athletes' motivation — at the same time, in the same space, with a high noise floor. Athletes, equipment and audience response together form an acoustic background that announcements and music can only sit into via a zone-sized, precisely-tuned system.

Technical setup
Three-zone system design: competition floor, audience seating, announcer position — each zone with independent levels and channel routing, so that announcement clarity is not compromised by music and competition noise. EMT is a cost-conscious event — the rig is intentionally streamlined, using an analog multi-cable infrastructure instead of Dante.
- PA system (2022–2024)
- PS Audio CX rig with Chevin amplifiers — matched to the multifunctional halls' acoustics and the competition floor layout
- PA system (from 2025)
- dB Technologies ES1203 active column arrays — with built-in amplification, compact form factor
- FOH console
- Allen & Heath CQ18-T and SQ-5 digital consoles — adapted by year to production needs and budget
- Wireless microphones
- Shure SLXD and ULXP for announcements — the speaker can appear almost anywhere on the competition floor, so active Shure directional antennas provide reliable hall-wide coverage; antenna splitting feeds the receivers from a shared antenna pair
- Network
- analog multi-cable infrastructure — chosen to fit the cost-conscious production framework, no Dante
- Zone handling
- competition floor, audience seating and announcer zone with independent levels; background music and announcements on separate channels

Atmosphere-building at the competition
Sound engineering for CrossFit competitions differs from classic sports-event audio: athlete motivation, audience energy and announcement clarity have to land as one integrated audio experience. Background music supports the athletes' rhythm and endurance, while announcements remain intelligible in every zone — even within the high noise floor.
At the centre of system tuning is the careful level balance: music motivates without overpowering announcements; announcements lead the event without interrupting athlete focus. The right atmosphere — clear speech and targeted, energetic music — contributes directly to the athletes' performance and the competition's professional credibility.
